About the arena

Suonenjoki Ice Hall, known since 2022 as Iiro Arena, is the local ice sports centre in Suonenjoki. The hall hosts ice hockey, skating and other ice sports for all ages.

Facts and figures

The hall was completed in 1997. The ice measures 28 × 56 metres, the stands seat about 952 spectators and the total floor area is around 2,800 m². The hall is owned by Suonenjoen Jäähalli Oy, whose largest shareholder is the ice hockey club Suonenjoen Kiekko-Karhut ry.

History

The hall was built in 1997 to replace the earlier outdoor rinks, largely through volunteer work by local players, parents and supporters. A key driving force behind the project was Heikki Raivio.

In 2022 the arena was named Iiro Arena in honour of local hockey legend Iiro Pakarinen (b. 1991 in Suonenjoki), an NHL-experienced player, HIFK captain and Olympic champion with the Finnish men's national team (Beijing 2022).

The hall is centrally located at Koulukatu 6, FI-77600 Suonenjoki. There is ample parking nearby.
